IBM Israel Science and Technology Limited, better known as IBM Research – Haifa, was first established in 1972. Since then, the lab has conducted decades of research vital to IBM’s success. The lab is one of 9 research laboratories located outside of the United States, and has close working relationships with IBM Israel and its twin research laboratory in Zurich. In Haifa, 25 percent of the technical staff have doctorate degrees in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or related fields. Employees are actively involved in teaching in Israeli higher education institutions and in supervising post-graduate theses. R&D projects are being executed today in areas such as storage systems, cloud computing, healthcare and life sciences, verification technologies, analytics, business optimization, information retrieval, programming environments, and more.
Since FP4, IBM HRL has participated and led numerous EU-funded projects and is considered an Israeli leader in FP participation.

MAIN TASKS OF INVOLVEMENT
IBM will contribute in three domains: Semantic-based PLM, Event processing, and Mobile technologies for manufacturing intelligence, which will be conducted within the three work packages WP3, WP6 and WP8, respectively.
In WP3, IBM will participate in all of the tasks, leading task WP3.4, playing full partnership to this WP leadership. IBM will contribute within that role to the PSYMBIOSYS holistic view of modeling information throughout the product lifecycle, into a fully connected network, breaking silos and activity lanes and enabling collaboration among product development partners. IBM will deliver the D3.7-3.8 deliverables.
In WP6, IBM will lead the symbiotic SOA-EDA connection of real-time events with service activations, contributing platforms to support these functions, and will deliver the D6.7-D6.8 deliverables.
In WP8, IBM will lead the Mobile applications development and run-time environment for Manufacturing Intelligence task WP8.3, contributing platforms to support these activities, and deliver the D8.5-D8.6 deliverables for that task.
